How to Apply for Affordable Housing

1) Call (206) 875-5040 to leave a message to schedule an appointment 

Before you can apply for an affordable apartment, you must schedule an appointment to see an apartment and submit your application. 

 

Please have the following information ready when you call to leave a message:

  • Your first and last name (please spell them out)

  • An email address to get in touch with you

  • A phone number we can reach you at

  • The apartment size you would like to rent

 

2) Confirm your scheduled appointment

Community Roots staff will be reaching out to you by phone and email to schedule an apartment tour and appointment time. They will also send you the list of required documents to bring with you when you apply.

 

You'll need to collect all the documents required to complete your rental application between your call and your appointment date.

3) Complete a tour and your housing application at Canopy White Center

Attend your scheduled appointment to tour an affordable apartment and submit your rental application. Appointments will be held at the Canopy White Center office (10821 8th Ave SW Seattle, WA 98146).

Due to regulatory requirements, we must verify every household member’s income and asset information. This can take some time depending on whether the information is provided at the appointment. To assist in this process, we ask that applicants have all contact information for income and asset sources ready. 


Due to the number of applications being processed, it can take three or more weeks for us to process paperwork and verify information.
 

3) Sign a lease!

If your paperwork is approved, Community Roots will contact you to set a time to sign your lease and schedule your move-in day.

 

If you are not approved, you will receive a letter explaining why. You will have 14 days to appeal the decision. The unit will not be held during the appeal process.​
